A couple of friends and I recently drove down Route 65 from Albert Lea, Minnesota to Clayton, Louisiana. It was a way to celebrate an upcoming 65th birthday and it also gave us an excuse to attend a Bourbon Festival in New Orleans since we were so close. The primary mission though was to test our road trip skills in preparation for a planned Route 66 road trip next year. We broke up the long days of driving with exploration of sites on the backroads and byways, taking advantage of extra time in Natchez, Mississippi, New Orleans, Louisiana and Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
