Empire of Pain
During a time of unregulated madness in the Roaring 20's a slick lawyer enticed people to invest over $30M in his non-existent schemes including rice fields in Arkansas and oil wells in Panama. He lived the high life while running a Ponzi scheme before the term entered business vocabulary. The story covers the buildup, his escape to Nova Scotia and the eventual reckoning. It raises the contemporary issue of how people can so blindly but their trust in a con man.
Tell Me Everything
The people and setting in Maine will be familiar to anyone who has read Strout's previous works. This story digs deeper into how the relationships between her characters have been formed over time and how chance encounters shaped the direction of their lives. There is an undercurrent of angst in friendships that are not allowed to go any further without complications and the search to find meaning in the "unrecorded" lives of the people they meet in passing and in their own.
Knife
I approached this book with a great deal of trepidation and am surprised at how much I enjoyed it. While the assault on Rushdie was horrific, he wrote honestly about how he survived the initial attack, slowly recovered and put his life back together and used the experience to reflect on the fragility of life and what makes it worth living.
I work with people in all stages of their career, from their first leadership role to the top positions in organizations.
My teams coaching helps on-board leaders who are taking over new teams, those building a team or helping to enhance the effectiveness of teams.
These retreats provide space for women to come together for renewal and revitalization
