Fencing with the King
A young woman living in America her entire life travels to Jordan with her father who has been asked to fence with the King for his 60th birthday. In the process she learns more about her Jordanian heritage and a grandmother whose poetry reflects the same love of writing as she has. In the process she uncovers family secrets, the generational trauma caused by displacement and the desire to understand the legacy of those who go before us as a better way to know ourselves.
The Correspondent
Sybil Van Antwerp has written letters throughout her life to keep in touch and chronicle events. Writing in her later years, she reflects on her life as a distinguished lawyer, the death of a young son, her divorce and choices she made that she now questions. She writes to family, friends, authors and nearly anyone willing to write back. In the process she wrestles with the unexpected attention from suitors, family dissension and the quest for forgiveness in a letter that will never be sent.
